Praia de Mira is an urban type bathing area with intensive use and with a lot of tradition.
Named Palheiros de Mira, due to the wooden constructions used by fishermen, Praia de Mira was in the first part of the century XX a fishing village, whose daily life can be seen in the Museu Etnográfico, operating precisely in a restored haystack.
Nowadays, it is a busy seaside resort, with fine white sand surrounded by dunes and bathed by the strong waves of the Atlantic Ocean, which attracts many surfers. Beyond the dunes, the Mata Nacional, where the aroma of pine predominates, hides the Lagoa da Barrinha, with serene waters, excellent for sailing, canoeing or windsurfing.
