Faro Beach

In the heart of the Ria Formosa Natural Park, this area is characterized by a dune cord

Located on the Ancão Peninsula - a stretch of sand that stretches for several kilometers, separating the lagoon system from the Atlantic Ocean. Formed by peninsulas and sandy islands that protect a vast area of marshland, channels and islets. The diversity of the existing fauna and flora is one of the notable aspects. It is a beach frequented by thousands of bathers, attracted by the natural beauty, the temperate waters and the sun. Access to Praia de Faro is via a bridge, where you can travel by car or by boat. Fluvial careers begin in Faro at the Cais da Porta Nova (Portas do Mar).

There is a large urban occupation and intense tourist activity on this beach during the summer. However, in the extreme east and west of the beach, summer buildings are replaced by picturesque fishermen and shellfish houses, and dunes and marshes dominate the landscape.

There are many sports activities that take place on this beach throughout the year, with the Nautical Center of the City Hall assuming a strategic role in promoting canoeing, sailing and windsurfing and in promoting activities promoted by companies operating in the field of tourist entertainment. During the bathing season, this town hall also has the Centro Azul da Praia de Faro (Blue Flag interpretation and environmental education center in the municipality).

On this beach there are some restaurants where you can enjoy the typical dishes of the area and the great diversity of seafood. Try the "Arroz de Lingueirão", a typical Algarvian dish.
Lifeguard service is provided at six beach stations. Three of these beach posts are provided by the Municipality of Faro and the rest are integrated into the three existing bathing facilities. This beach also has the concession to explore recreational support.

This beach is officially classified with the “Accessible Beach” award. The Municipality of Faro provides a chair on this beach designed to facilitate access to the bath for people with reduced mobility, ramps and walkways for access to the beach, toilets and accessible first aid station and orderly car parks with spaces for vehicles at the service of people with disabilities.
